Introducing the Midwifery Council Staff
Sharron Cole, QSO, MA, DipEd, DipCBEd, CEO, Registrar
Sharron Cole is the newly appointed CEO and Registrar of the Midwifery Council. She has more than twenty years experience working in the health regulatory area, particularly a long involvement with Medical Misadventure/Treatment Injury in ACC, two terms on the Medical Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal and seven years as Deputy Chair of the Midwifery Council. Her previous employment has been as the Director of the Wellington Catholic Education Centre, preceded by two terms as the Deputy Chief Families Commissioner. She was also a three term Board member of the Hutt Valley District Health Board and was Deputy Chair for seven years. She chairs the Board of Parents Centres NZ. Sharron lives in Petone and is married with four adult children.
Nick has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University and has extensive management experience in various government departments. Most recently Nick was the Registrar of Radio Frequencies in the Ministry of Economic Development. Nick's skills in commercial law, management and statutory regulation will also be invaluable to the Council. Nick was born and bred in Wellington and is married with two children.
Marilyn Pierson, Accounts and Registration
Marilyn has a background in accounting and is a member of the NZICA College of Accounting Technicians. Prior to joining the Council, she worked at Victoria University in the Finance Department and joined the Council to improve her daily work variety by doing more than just number crunching! She is a keen golfer and enjoys competitive match play.
Andy Crosby, Programmes Manager
Andy joined the Council in February 2007 with a background in office and industrial recruitment and relationship management roles. She currently lives in Greytown in the Wairarapa with her delightful son.
Sue Calvert, Midwifery Advisor, M Phil (Hons), B Com, RM
A New Zealand qualified midwife, Sue has lived and worked in and around Wellington most of her life. She has practised as both a LMC and core midwife, as well undertaking education, research, policy and change management roles. She is mum to one teenage daughter.
Christine Whaanga, Administrator 
Christine has a background in database maintenance and administration, mainly in the tertiary sector. She has worked at Victoria University where she also graduated with a bachelors degree in Commerce and Administration. She has also worked for other government departments. Christine's main responsibilities are in the finance area and in database and website maintenance. Christine is married with two adult sons and lives in Alicetown, Lower Hutt.
Judith Norman, Administration Assistant 
Judith has worked for the Midwifery Council since 2009, initially in a casual part-time position but now permanently at .5. She has a Masters Degree in English literature from the University of Auckland and lives in Wellington with her husband and two school age sons. She is a soprano in the choir of Wellington Cathedral of Saint Paul. She provides administrative support to the Council.
