Breastfeeding Workshops
Midwives may now choose any approved breastfeeding update of at least one half day duration that is in line with the WHO's "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" to satisfy the compulsory requirement to attend an update once every three years. Some updates will be approved as elective courses with points allocated but midwives may not count attendance at the same breastfeeding update towards both compulsory and elective requirements. Attendance at Breastfeeding Conferences do not satisfy this requirement.

Each midwife is required to undergo an individual review at least once every two years. Further information about MSR is available in section 3.1.6 of the Recertification Programme. The Council contracts with the New Zealand College of Midwives (NZCOM) to conduct MSR and midwives wishing to make bookings or with specific queries about MSR should contact NZCOM direct on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
