Having robust data about the midwifery workforce is a first step for the Government and the Council in developing workforce strategies. Each year the Midwifery Council surveys practising and recently practising midwives. The survey is sent out as part of the annual practising certificate renewal process. It asks midwives to provide some information about themselves and about their practise as a midwife.
In March 2010 Council published its inaugural Midwifery Workforce Report. This report presents data collected by the Midwifery Council in conjunction with renewal of midwives' practising certificates from 2005 to 2009. It is intended that such reports will be published biennially. An electronic copy is available below.
