E te whaea e Mina Timutimu kua hinga koe (our loved and respected mother Mina has fallen)
Early last week, the Council received the news that founding Council member and beloved kuia of New Zealand midwifery Mina Timutimu was gravely ill and then shortly afterwards, that she passed peacefully away. The Council sent the following message to the family:
We know she has been such a special person to so many as she has shared her life, her wisdom, her knowledge and skills but we have always felt that midwifery has had a special part in Mina’s life. It is very satisfying to know that Mina’s contribution has been recognised in the past year by way of the New Zealand honour and that so many who have been part of Mina’s life have been able to share in that celebration with her. We can look at that as a God-given opportunity that few are fortunate enough to have been given.
….Mina was the whaea of midwifery in New Zealand so we all feel we have lost our loved and respected mother. Our heartfelt sympathies and love to all the whānau at this very sad time.
Rest in peace, our beloved Mina
